Next week we are going to celebrate Thanks Giving Day. This day reminds us to offer thanks to Lord God almighty. Bible says that God dwells among the praises. Rev 4:8-11, "The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!" Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."

We read in the Bible how many, those who praised God were delivered from their problems. Jehoshaphat was one of them. He and his army were in great trouble because a great multitude was coming against him and his kingdom. War loomed over their heads and they had no other option except to call upon the name of the Lord. In 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 we read the whole story of how King Jehoshaphat prayed and sought God with all his heart. And the Bible tells us that even the little ones, women and children everyone stood before God asking for help as we read in 2Chronicles 20:13, "Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the LORD."

Then God spoke through a prophet, "You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you" (2Chronicles 20:17).

Further we read that King Jehoshaphat formed a group of priests who could praise God continually and when they started to praise God, God Himself fought against them and defeated their enemy as we read in 2Chronicles 20:21-22, "And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever." Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated."

This is the power of praise which moves the Almighty God to bring mighty deliverance and mighty miracles for a person. No matter what you are going through, if you praise God in the midst of those circumstances, He can turn your situation around. He can bring great deliverance and victory in your life. The same God who helped Jehoshaphat and all the people of Judah can help you too. He is ready to deliver you and bring victory in your life if you just call upon His name. He said in Psa 50:15, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

Hope for the Hopeless - Part 11

We have already looked into the life of Hagar how God helped her when she was in the wilderness and when she thought that she had no other option except to see her son die without water. But God helped her in those circumstances and both she and her son survived. But today I am going to tell another story of Hagar. It happened when she was alone and when the boy was not yet born. She found peace and hope in the Lord.

Hagar was a maid servant in the house of Abraham and Sarah. Now Sarah dealt harshly to her and it was so painful for her that she fled from home and went to the wilderness. She sat by a spring of water. Her heart was crying and she did not know where to go what to do, whom to turn to? All her hopes were lost. How long she had been sitting there, no one knows but the Bible tells us that an Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness as we read in Gen 16:7, "Now the Angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur."

The Angel of the LORD said to her, Gen 16:9-12, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand. I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude. And the Angel of the LORD said to her: "Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the LORD has heard your affliction. He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man, And every man's hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren."

When problems occur we think of fleeing from the problem but sometimes God allows us to stay where we are in the midst of those problems and hardships. And if we trust God and stay in the same place God protects us and sustains us even under those circumstances. We may never understand why God allows those things but He often does.

So Hagar went back to the place of her hardship and stayed there for more than fifteen years and we do not read whether she had to lose her hope in those years. Her circumstances might not have changed, her hardship might not have stopped but an encounter with God changed her whole perspective. She was filled with new hope. She praised God and said in Gen 16:13,"Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, "Have I also here seen Him who sees me?"

My friend, no matter what you are going through, one encounter with God can change your hopeless situations around and can fill you with new hope. Have you lost all your hopes today? Are you shedding bitter tears today? Come to Jesus, give your life to Jesus, He can fill you with new hope.
